Around the Christmas season Steph and I got onto the subject of books over a bowl of hookah. Mein Kampf was a book I always had in mind of reading but never really got around to. The book was written by the notorious Adolf Hitler for Christs sake, who wouldn’t want to read it? Who wouldn’t want to know what was going on in the mind of a crazy man?

For those of you that have been living under a rock for the past 200 years, I am going to give you a history lesson. Not only because I obsess over this era and want to show off my history skills but I really want my readers to know, this is important. This is history. It’s in the past I know, but history tends to repeat itself. I for one do not want another Holocaust. This man, (this monster as a matter of fact) that wrote this book is responsible for the murder of millions. And to all the non-believers- YES! THE HOLOCAUST HAPPENED! Stop denying it because your German. We live in a screwed up world and denying the undeniable evidence is just ignorant.

Anyways- it all started when Hitler endorsed the fall of the Weimar Republic, and declared at a public rally on October 30, 1923 that he was prepared to march in Berlin to rid the government of Communists and the Jewish people. In November, he held a rally at a beer hall (of all places) in Munich to proclaim a “revolution”. That following day, he led 2,000 armed “brown-shirts” in an attempt to take over the Bavarian government where more than a dozen were killed in the fight. There, Hitler suffered a broken and dislocated arm, was arrested, and was imprisoned where he received a five-year sentence whereas he only served 9 months. While in prison, he wrote the first volume of Mein Kampf. Supposedly this is where we find how he REALLY feels about Jews, whom he portrayed as responsible for all of the problems and evils of the world! that being, democracy, Communism, and internationalism, as well as Germany’s defeat in the War. Jews, (to him) were Germanys true enemy. He didnt even think of them as a race, but more as an anti-race. How f***ed up is that?

In 1930, depression hit Germany and Hitler promised to get rid of all Jews and Communists in order to reunite the German speaking part of Europe. January of 1933, President Paul Von Hindenburg appointed Hitler Chancellor of Germany. Once in this position, Hitler wasted none of his precious ass time working towards attaining a dictatorship. His hard work paid off when von Hindenburg died in 1934, and he gained full control of Germany. DUN DUN DUN! *Oh my god*Adolf Hitler’s personal racist war with the Jews now kicked up a couple notches. He and his gang of Nazi assholes now had the power to put some of their twisted ideas into action. In April of 1933, Jews couldn’t work government jobs, they started banning Jews from Universities, and a Jewish businesses were boycotted. Thats just the start folks. Come 1935, the infamous Nuremberg Laws were passed. Jews became classified as German “subjects” instead of citizens. They were no longer human to say the least. Jews could only marry jews, career options for the jewish declined, and shops displayed signs that said something along the lines of, “No Jews Allowed.” I don’t know I can’t read German…

In another attempt to rid Germany of Jews, a roundup of Jews with Polish citizenship took effect in October of 1938. Polish Jews were grouped together and physically taken out and dumped off at the Polish border. For two days, across Germany, violence erupted like a disastrous volcano. Stores, houses and businesses were destroyed, churches were set on fire and burned to the ground, and thousands of Jews were arrested.

Hitler had a dream, well that’s nice and all, but unlike MLK his dream was of a racially “pure” empire that was free of Jews. He even announced on several different occasions his plans to annihilate Jews living in the territories under his control. He knew he was being watched. He had grabbed the world by the collar and threatened to use Jews as hostages in order to prevent Western powers (aka Good Ol’ USA) from invading and messing up his plans. Genocide was also threatened. So you can point the finger at the dude with the stache because Hitler was fully responsible for the Poland executions of 1939 and 1940. Not only was he the one setting up plans for Jewish reservations in Poland but he was also the one planning the deportations. In 1941 Hitler ordered the extermination of every potential enemy in the Eastern territory and he was fully aware of the executions of Jewish civilians in these territories. Ruthless. Let’s jump to mid September 1941 when Hitler started the beginning of mass deportations from Germany to Eastern Europe. During this time and the following Winter, when preparation for the “Final Solution” in Europe were in full swing, Hitler spoke, or more like,openly ranted and raved at social occasions about the annihilation of the Jews in Europe. This guy might’ve been dropped one too many times as a baby but he could sure stir up a crowd. Adolf Hitler personally ordered extermination of Jews on December 12, 1941 during a meeting of Nazi German governors. Countless letters and speeches made it clear that the Holocaust was a task that had to be carried out.Hitlers hatred expanded and concentration camps were set up after 1933 to detain not only Jews, but communists, gypsies, and homosexuals. During World War II these camps were built for the sole purpose of killing men, women, and children. Yes, children. More than 6 million people, mostly Jews and the Polish, were killed in gas chambers, and a large proportion died of inhumane mistreatment, starvation, and disease.

The Holocaust represents 11 million lives ended, an extermination of people not for who they were but for what they were. Groups were persecuted by the Nazis because of their failure to fall into the Aryan category.

As Hitler gained power, sales of Mein Kampf were through the roof, making him a very very rich man. You think Twilight is big? In Germany, newlyweds received a copy of the book from the government, 6 million copies were issued before World War 2, and by 1942, Mein Kampf had the largest sales of any book in the world – apart from the Bible.
